WHAT IS ILLITERACY?
DEFINITION OF ILLITERACY :
Illiteracy is the lack of knowledge in a particular subject or is the inability to write and read. Another definition is that the state or quality of being illiterate; lack of education or culture; and again inability to read or write
POVERTY
OF ADULTS WITH THE LOWEST LITERACY LEVELS, 43 PERCENT LIVE IN POVERTY, AND 70% OF ADULT WELFARE RECIPIENTS HAVE LOW LITERACY LEVELS. THERE IS A CLEAR CORRELATION BETWEEN MORE EDUCATION AND HIGHER EARNINGS, AND BETWEEN HIGHER EDUCATIONAL SCORES AND HIGHER EARNINGS.
BULLYING
BEING POOR IS ASSOCIATED WITH A LOW SOCIAL STATUS, AND BULLYING IS ALL ABOUT PICKING ON OTHERS YOU PERCEIVE AS HAVING A LOW SOCIAL STATUS. SO KIDS LIVING IN POVERTY OR THOSE WHO ARE LESS WELL-OFF THAN THEIR PEERS CAN FIND THEMSELVES THE TARGET OF BULLYING.
DROP-OUT RATES
EVERY YEAR, ONE IN SIX YOUNG ADULTS—MORE THAN 1.2 MILLION—DROP OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL - NEARLY 30 PERCENT OF ADULTS WITH HOUSEHOLD INCOMES AT OR BELOW THE FEDERAL POVERTY LINE DO NOT HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL CREDENTIAL.
OTHER RESOURCES RELATING TO LITERACY
WORLD LITERACY FOUNDATION
IN OUR GLOBALIZED WORLD, CLOSE TO 20% OF THE POPULATION IS ILLITERATE. THE WORLD LITERACY FOUNDATION WAS FOUNDED TO HELP ERADICATE THIS STAGGERING STATISTIC THROUGH THE PROMOTION OF LITERACY AND EDUCATION, AND THE PROVISION OF LEARNING RESOURCES AND TEACHING MATERIALS.
THE LITERACY PROJECT
FOUNDED IN 2009, THE LITERACY PROJECT'S VISION IS TO BRING THE GIFT OF LITERACY TO CHILDREN AS A FOUNDATIONAL LEARNING ELEMENT TO HELP ACHIEVE THEIR PERSONAL DREAMS. TO ACCOMPLISH ITS MISSION, THE LITERACY PROJECT (TLP) ACCESSES AND ENHANCES KEY PHONIC SKILLS AMONG STRUGGLING READERS; PROMOTES LEARNING IN A FUN, SOCIAL AND INTERACTIVE ENVIRONMENT; USES PROVEN METHODS TO MAXIMIZE THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE; AND FOSTERS SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND ECONOMIC SUCCESS THROUGH ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT.
YOUTH LIT
THEY BELIEVE THAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW WHY THEIR CHILDREN ARE FAILING. TEACHERS NEED TO KNOW WHY THE WILSON METHOD OR ORTON-GILLINGHAM ISN'T WORKING IN THE CLASSROOM, ISN'T SCALING TO MEET THE NEEDS OF ALL THE STUDENTS. AMERICA NEEDS TO KNOW WHY SOMETHING AS EASY AS READING IS SO HARD TO TEACH.
HEALTH IN DISTRESS
Health issues we are dealing with today Millennials. Millennials are dealing with problems such as
Depression
Drugs
Obesity
INFORMATION ABOUT ALL 3 ISSUES
SUBSTANCE ABUSE IS BAD
One major result of continuous depression is repeating instances of substance abuse. On top of that, most of the current substance abusers are millennials, who are going through constant stress and worries. People find themselves overwhelmed with misery and believe the only escape from their problems is to use drugs or similar items as an escape. From that point on, they become addicted, believing it as a guise that solves all their problems, while in reality it just does damage to their body and lives. And while eliminating the drugs is a factor, it is more crucial to cut the problem by the source as well.

IS A TEEN DEPRESSED OR JUST MOODY?
Depression is an insidious illness that has been impacting the innocent lives of many people especially among millennials. Depression starts off young and follows through up till they die if they don’t receive mental help. Depression has affected about more than 15 million American adults or about 6.7 percent of the U.S. population 18 and older in a given year which is still going viral nationally causing many to lose the spark of happiness in their lives into something so sad and hopeless. Many need to help rid of depression as if it succeeds, the population of many teens won’t even exist anymore due to suicidal crimes.
SCHOOL LUNCHES CAUSING OBESITY
The government is investing such a large amount of money into the schools lunches and it is being used to buy unhealthy fatty foods. School are providing a long list of options that include high-fat, low-grade meats and cheeses and processed foods like chicken nuggets and pizza. Many of the items selected are ready to be thawed, heated or just unwrapped a necessity for schools without kitchens.
SOLUTIONS & CONTRIBUTIONS
DRUGS
A part of solving the solution is knowing who is suffering. And since they likely are not to specify it themselves, it is up to the populace to figure it out.
I suggest something like a community watch, an organized communication group who is familiar with their environment and look for possible drug abusers, and investigate when needed. They can create a logbook that lists any users or suspects, and will create a special type of intermission to treat them.
It would require many people and tidiness, but for the wellbeing of others, it would be worth it.
DEPRESSION

Depression treatments don’t necessarily work for everyone. Sometimes medication is needed to relieve depression symptoms. Medically assisted treatment implements the use of antidepressants to treat depression. Antidepressants work by bringing the imbalanced chemicals in your brain back into balance, which can help to relieve symptoms.
The method and focus used for cognitive behavioral therapy sets it apart from other forms of therapy through cognitive restructuring and behavioral activation. With CBT, the therapist and patient work together to change, or rewire, thinking patterns. The patient then learns to overcome obstacles by participating in activities that are enjoyable. CBT focuses on the present, including what and how a person thinks, rather than why a person thinks the way he does.

Clinics, and other cities around the world but you would have to research for this certain type of therapy
OBESITY (SCHOOL LUNCHES)
possible solution: The Agriculture Department can help by having farming practices and by having a separate program to deliver food, especially fresh fruits and vegetables, from farms to schools. It will also need to provide adequate support for kitchens and healthy meal planning like giving options to students. Possibly getting rid of unhealthy junk food they sell. Also have a student committee where the nutritional center comes in and talks about how they work and what they do. They can give information about what meals they can provide staying in the guidelines.

HOW TO PREVENT
DRUGS

Dont hangout with others thaats abuse drugs and alchol to prevent peer pressure
The booost way to avoid drug use is to not use them at all and any prescribed drugs must only be used in a correct way

Keep a well-balanced life
DEPRESSION
Get involved in (school activities, hobby, clubs..etc) getting involved can boost up your mood, you meet new people and just have a great time out of your day.
Eating healthy, getting enough sleep and doing your exercise, nothing will boost your mood like having a sense of purpose.
Take fewer AP classes don't stress yourself too much. it is fine with trying to push your limits but don't over power yourself.
OBESITY
Avoid consumption of sugary and fatty foods. (Instead of eating hot Cheetos as a snack get a bowl of mixed nuts or fruit salad)
